Engineered for BMW M3 F80 and M4 F82 owners, this Titanium + Carbon Fiber Behind-Grille Cold Air Intake places the air pickup directly behind the kidney grille, bypassing hot engine bay air and delivering true cold ambient intake. Manufactured in Europe and quality-controlled by BYC Performance, this BMW F80 / F82 titanium intake system is fully compatible with OEM MAF/MAP sensors.

For the S55B30T0 twin-turbo previous-generation M3/M4 family (425 hp standard, 444 hp Competition, 460 hp CS, 493 hp GTS), this behind-grille titanium CAI delivers lower intake air temperatures and more consistent high-rpm power than engine-bay airboxes. The titanium construction is noticeably lighter than the all-carbon variant with superior heat reflection.

Installation Notes

Installing the BMW F80 / F82 titanium behind-grille CAI takes 90-120 minutes:

  1. Disconnect the battery.
  2. Remove the OEM airbox lid, intake tubes, and the behind-grille channel.
  3. Transfer OEM MAF/MAP sensors to the carbon airbox.
  4. Route the titanium intake pipe to behind the kidney grille.
  5. Bolt the carbon airbox to the engine bay using OEM mounting points.
  6. Connect pipes to the turbo inlet and tighten clamps (8-10 Nm).
  7. Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and check for leaks.

Care & Maintenance

Clean and re-oil the conical filter every 15,000 km using filter-specific cleaner. Wipe the titanium pipes with pH-neutral shampoo; do not use aggressive metal polish.

FAQ

How is it different from the all-carbon variant?
Titanium pipes have higher heat reflection so intake air stays cooler. The kit is also noticeably lighter and delivers more consistent high-rpm power.

Why is the behind-grille position important?
Conventional airboxes draw hot engine bay air. Air pulled from behind the grille is at ambient temperature — true cold intake.

Does it need a tune?
No. Plug & play.

Compatible with G80 / G82?
No. G80/G82 (2021+) use the S58 engine and a different front structure.

Compatible with M2 F87?
Only the S55-engined M2 Competition F87 (2018-2021); verify the front-end routing kit.

Compatible with M2 G87?
No. G87 uses the next-gen S58 engine.

Compatible with F83 Cabriolet?
Yes — BMW M4 F83 Convertible (S55) fits perfectly.

Will rain enter the system?
No. The behind-grille channel has a water separator; airflow inside the titanium pipe does not push water toward the engine.
