Engineered for BMW M3 F80, M4 F82/F83, and M2 Competition F87 owners, this Heat-Shielded Stainless Steel 200 Cell Catted Downpipe starts at the S55 turbo outlets and is finished with a ceramic heat-shield coating that optimizes underhood thermal management. Manufactured in Europe and quality-controlled by BYC Performance, this downpipe set replaces the OEM catalysts with 200-cell high-flow metal-core catalysts — emissions remain within legal limits, flow improves substantially, and the S55 twin-turbo character is unleashed.

The 200-cell metal-core catalyst delivers noticeably lower backpressure than the OEM 400-600 cell unit while maintaining emissions control. The heat-shield coating lowers underhood temperatures, protecting nearby intake lines and the S55's sensitive electronics from thermal soak. This downpipe set fits all S55-powered F80/F82/F83/F87 Competition models.

  • T304 Stainless Steel (this product): Durable, thermal-shock resistant, lifetime rust-resistance
  • Titanium: noticeably lighter, naturally high heat tolerance, but cost-benefit at the downpipe position favors stainless
  • For the S55 turbo-outlet position, stainless + heat coating is the most common and durable choice

200 Cell Catted vs. De-Cat Downpipe

Two main downpipe types exist for the S55 F-series:

  • 200 Cell Catted (this product): Noticeably lower backpressure vs OEM, emissions within legal limit, TÜV-friendly in most markets, generally no CEL.
  • De-Cat: Maximum flow, louder, but may violate emissions law and typically requires a tune; otherwise check engine light will trigger.
  • The 200-cell variant is the most balanced daily-driver option — no software required.

G80/G82/G87 Incompatibility Notice

This downpipe is NOT compatible with the BMW M3 G80, M4 G82, M2 G87 (2021+). New-generation G-series cars use the S58 engine with a completely different turbo flange, geometry, and sensor layout. A separate G-series downpipe system is required.

Installation Notes

S55 downpipe replacement requires lift access and engine bay work; professional installation is essential. General procedure:

  1. Lift the vehicle and remove the engine underbody panel.
  2. Disconnect the OEM downpipes from the S55 turbo flanges (bolts are usually seized — use penetrant).
  3. Release the catback inlet v-band clamps.
  4. Carefully remove OEM oxygen sensors and install them on the new downpipes.
  5. Mount the new downpipes to the turbo flanges with new gaskets (torque: 22 Nm).
  6. Tighten the catback v-band clamps (torque: 12 Nm).
  7. Read fault codes and clear if necessary.

Care & Maintenance

Re-check bolt torque and flange seal integrity after the first 500 km. The heat coating is maintenance-free; protect from heavy oil and chemical contact. Post-track carbon residue is normal and can be wiped clean with a stainless cleaner.

FAQ

Will it trigger check engine light?
Generally no with the 200-cell variant — emissions stay within OEM tolerance. The de-cat variant typically triggers CEL and requires a tune.

Is a tune required?
Not mandatory for the 200-cell variant. Pairing with a Stage 1/2 map maximizes the power gain (the S55 commonly sees a noticeable gain).

How loud is it?
Downpipe alone: slightly louder than OEM, S55 turbo note more audible. Combined with catback: noticeably louder and fuller.

Does it fit the BMW M4 F83 Convertible?
Yes, the BMW M4 F83 Convertible (Cabriolet) is fully compatible.

Does it fit the BMW M3 G80 / M4 G82?
NO. The G80/G82 use the S58 engine and require a completely different downpipe system.

Does it fit the base M2 F87 (N55)?
NO. A separate downpipe model exists for the N55-powered base M2 F87. This product is only for S55-powered models.
