With significantly lower backpressure than the OEM 400-600 cell catalyst structure, this downpipe variant is designed for users who want aggressive exhaust sound and maximum flow. The S55 twin-turbo character is unmistakably amplified; this is a performance-led choice balancing track use with daily driving. Please confirm local emissions regulations before ordering — de-cat (catless) variants may require a software tune.

  • Heat-Shielded 200 Cell Catted Downpipe (alternative product): Ceramic heat coating + 200 cell metal-core catalyst, lower underhood temperatures, TÜV-friendly, generally no tune required.
  • Track / aggressive use: this variant. Daily driving + emissions compliance: the 200-cell catted variant.

This downpipe is NOT compatible with the BMW M3 G80, M4 G82, M2 G87 (2021+). New-generation G-series uses the S58 engine with completely different turbo flange, geometry, and sensor positions.

Installation Notes

S55 downpipe replacement requires lift access and engine bay work; professional installation is essential. General procedure:

  1. Lift the vehicle and remove the engine underbody panel.
  2. Disconnect the OEM downpipes from the S55 turbo flanges (bolts are usually seized — use penetrant).
  3. Release the catback inlet v-band clamps.
  4. Carefully remove OEM oxygen sensors; if needed, install them on the new downpipes with CEL fixer / O2 spacer.
  5. Mount the new downpipes to the turbo flanges with new gaskets (torque: 22 Nm).
  6. Tighten the catback v-band clamps (torque: 12 Nm).
  7. Read fault codes; pair with a professional tune (Stage 2) if necessary.

Care & Maintenance

Re-check bolt torque and flange seal integrity after the first 500 km. Stainless is corrosion-resistant; post-track carbon residue can be wiped clean with a stainless cleaner. Protect from heavy oil and chemical contact.

Will it trigger check engine light?
For this high-flow / de-cat variant, generally yes — managed via CEL fixer (O2 spacer) or paired with a Stage 2 tune.

Is a tune required?

How loud is it?

Does it fit the BMW M4 F83 Convertible?
Yes, the BMW M4 F83 Convertible (Cabriolet) is fully compatible.

Does it fit the BMW M3 G80 / M4 G82?
NO. The G80/G82 use the S58 engine and require a completely different downpipe system.

Does it fit the base M2 F87 (N55)?
NO. A separate downpipe model exists for the N55-powered base M2 F87.
